Lady Scarlett at the Castle

Last weekend was my Dad's 50th birthday and, to mark the occasion, a dinner party was thrown in his honour at Studley Castle.  The castle dates back to the 19th century and is a grade 2 listed building, owned now by the De Vere hotel chain, and is such a pretty place in the festive months.  We were all to meet, devour a three course meal and then retire to the lounge for coffee and cake.

I cracked out a Scarlett and Jo dress I'd had in my wardrobe for a while, waiting for somewhere nice enough to wear it, and went for a simple look for the party.  The dress, as always with S&J, is a beautiful fit and the fabrics are perfect for this time of year.  I love the cheeky lace paneling on the sleeve, giving the illusion of a slimmer upper arm, and how it works with the deep navy colour of the dress.  My bust was suitably covered by the cross over at the front, but I added a little top underneath just in case it slipped in the day.
I added some last season heels from Evans, blue snake skin print heels with a t-bar strap, and a simply chain necklace I picked up a while back from a supermarket.
The dress could have been a little longer, to hit my knees, but I am taller than the average plus sized girl so it's not a problem I haven't come across before.  I had a ladder issue with my tights too, so had to go bare-legged (cold much?) but I don't think it's made much of a difference.
I love this look, S&J never fail to disappoint when I need something chic and effortless for an event - they're my go to for looking and feeling sophisticated yet sexy.  I got loads of compliments on the dress too, which is always a confidence booster!

The hotel is beyond lovely, and I would thoroughly recommend going for a drink if you're ever in the area (especially at this time of year). Just remind them if you're waiting longer than 10 minutes for your chardonnay, as they tend to forget you...
